Packaged food - Easy alternatives

The previous post was about knowing what packaged food is and why it is important for each of us to read labels. It was an eye opener for me in terms of what I consider as packaged food vs what actually is considered packaged food.

Then, it brings us to the question of whether we can avoid packaged foods in our life, in this fast paced life where busyness is an understatement. In this episode, Anuradha, helps us with the responses to these questions.

She talks about how we can influence children's choices in this area. This is especially relevant considering how all advertisements related to packaged food focus on children. Anuradha shares practical ways of introducing our children to this concept, rather than a total ban. She is also quite open about how she handles the same challenges in her house.

We talk about the one risky area, where one ends up going for packaged foods - snacks for those sudden hunger pangs. Even here, her suggestions are practical and gives a lot of importance to family coming together and doing stuff together.

We then explore what one should be careful about when buying from the neighborhood bakeries and local shops. You have no idea what she shares as the basic quality when you choose the options available in your locality.

We also discuss about semi processed foods and the various masalas - the notion of how hard it is to make these things at home vs the truth. Anuradha shares how we can spend just 1 hour on a weekend to avoid buying some of this stuff from outside for 1-2 months. And it all comes down to the wonder word - planning :)

She shares practical tips on how each one of us can start our own journey in figuring out what packaged food we use in our homes and how we can examine reducing it, one item at a time and how it could have a big positive impact on the family health.

Do read some of her very useful articles here, and do visit her website for more -
