This episode is meant to be a pointer to this technique so that you can find out more from the GTD book by David Allen or podcasts or videos on this topic. It is a very interesting journey to which I am happy to invite you. Listen on..

What the New Indian Woman podcast is about

As you may already be aware, this podcast has 2 focus areas. One, We examine the challenges faced by today's Indian woman and propose ACTIONABLE strategies in the Indian context, on a wide variety of topics - right from identifying their passion to better productivity and parenting. Second, we meet women who chose to aspire or have a dream beyond their defined roles and facilitate sharing of what worked and what didn’t, for them. Today's episode falls in the first category.

And in the process, my aim is to help you, The New Indian woman, to realize your potential, chase your dreams and aspirations, utilize the wonderful opportunities available in today's world.

What's in this episode:

We start the episode probing into why plan at all. If you believe planning is not for you, then you may be a bit disappointed to know you are already planning your day to day life, though you may actually be thinking you are not!

I am of the view that it is very important to plan what we want/have to do, when and how. Why ? It gives us a lot of options and it makes us more aligned to seeing challenges as opportunities - the one most common thing shared by all guests on this podcast. Most importantly, planning allows us to be intentional with time.

We get into why planning is not the same as having to do lists. In our earlier episodes, we have focussed on Goal setting, Yearly, Monthly and Quarterly Planning, about Crafting Ideal Day and even about Planners.

How to plan ? This is where I get into a short story of coming across a very useful article by David Allen and later reading the book Getting Things Done.

I focus on explaining the gist of how I apply GTD in my life - of course, this is not a comprehensive way of using GTD. The purpose of this episode is to introduce you to the topic of GTD.

The fundamental principle being "The mind is for having ideas, not holding them".

We look at the Capture, Clarify, Organize, Engage and Review components and what needs to be done in each stage and how I do it. We also look at the famous 2 minute rule.

We look at the various lists - SomeDay Maybe, Waiting For, Projects and the quintessential Next Action Lists based on contexts, apart from the Calendar. I explain how I use this both in the home and work context.

GTD is not just about these lists alone - it is a principle which starts with these. And there are so many more principles to examine. The key is how you understand and apply this to your life.

Hope you enjoy this episode. I welcome you to read up more on GTD and start experiencing the benefits. Please write to me at krishna@thenewindianwoman.com or reach out to our social media pages to share your views on this episode.
